Weno is from Ngāti Maniapoto and has whakapapa links to most Tainui Iwi, and Te Atiawa. Weno is tasked with organising and running 3 Te Reo and Tikanga classes a year. Generally these classes are held at marae that are involved in projects with NIWA scientists. Weno is continually working and supporting NIWA scientists when there is a need to liaise and consult with Iwi. Weno has a background in communications, farming and multimedia.

Erica (Te Arawa, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Pikiao, Te Whānau ā Apanui) started at NIWA in 1995. After completing a MSc (University of Waikato) developing a blue mussel embryo-larval toxicity test, she spent a number of years in the NIWA freshwater fisheries team. Here she gained skills in fish population studies, the downstream migration adult eels and fish passage through culverts. Her PhD (University of Auckland) investigated the effects of a group of contaminants called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on shellfish.

Taoho is a marine scientist with a BSc in marine science from the University of Newcastle and a MSc in applied science (Aquaculture) from the University of Tasmania. He has 5 years experience with NIWA as a Maori environmental researcher and consultant in the areas of marine fisheries, aquaculture and biosecurity.

Kelly May (Ngāti Kahungunu, Marangatuhetaua) is a member of NIWA's Māori Environmental Research team and primarily works on marine fisheries projects. Kelly is passionate about the environment and believes strategic research with Māori enhances growth and protection of whānau, hapū, iwi values. She completed her Masters degree in Aquaculture at Deakin University Australia returning to Nelson to work as a Marine Biology and Aquaculture Technician at NIWA.

He uri whakaheke au nō Te Tai Tokerau, ā, ko Te Hikutu rātou ko Ngāti Ueoneone, ko Ngāti Kahu ki Whangaroa ōku hapū. Wakaiti is a Research Assistant with a B.A (Hons) in Māori and Political Science from the University of Canterbury. She has been with Te Kūwaha since May 2008; Wakaiti has been working across a range of NIWA projects with a focus on social science methodologies and whānau/hapū/iwi development.

Darren NT King (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāpuhi) is a member of the Maori Environmental Research Team (Te Kuwaha o Taihoro Nukurangi) and NIWA's National Climate Centre (NCC). Employed at NIWA since 2001, he currently manages the Climate Applications Group based in Auckland.
